Here at the park office we have recently received six unusual reports, all of which have people who visit the park on the hunt for the ever-elusive Irish Fairy known to some as a Leprechaun! From the six stories told to the park staff we might have to agree there may be something out in the park playing tricks on people. We only ask that if you happen to see anything suspicious to please share your experience with the staff, so we can get to the bottom of this! As you start on this adventure and retrace the steps of the individuals you will be free to decide if you believe a Leprechaun has taken up residence at Fort Stevenson State Park.
The most recent tale of the Leprechaun came from one of the Park Managers children while using a kicksled on the Flicker Loop. Owen who some might think is a Leprechaun based on his size and passion for riddles and magic, stopped in the park office after coming off the trail to state he ran into the Leprechaun himself! He said they visited for a minute and then the curious fellow stated he needed to leave and wandered off the trail. Those that know Owen, would know he would not be startled or excited at this meeting. As a curious fellow himself, he was simply interested in having a short chat and then going about his day, not really recognizing his own luck in this amazing opportunity to catch the Leprechaun and get his gold! Maybe the Leprechaun knew this of dear Owen and felt safe enough to approach him? Maybe this Leprechaun has been here for several years and has encountered Owen before? Regardless when we quizzed Owen on how he knew this was a Leprechaun he explained that the leprechaun mentioned two words that he required Owen to promise to keep secret. If only we knew these two words maybe, then we could solve this mystery once and for all. Still more questions remain.
