This is #6 of a series based around Hathersage in the heart of The Peak District and is our first attempt at hiding geocaches! In Hathersage there are plenty of pubs and cafes and both free and paid parking.Or off road parking is available half way round. The circular walk is approximately 7 miles long with several climbs along the way. It can be attempted in either direction. There are stunning views throughout. None of the caches are hidden in stone walls. It may help if you can download these at home as GPS can be a bit tricky in places. BYOP.
Oh, the grand old Duke of York,
He had ten thousand men;
He marched them up to the top of the hill,
And he marched them down again.
When they were up, they were up,
And when they were down, they were down,
And when they were only halfway up,
They were neither up nor down.
The oldest version of the song that survives is from 1642.
In 1892 the song was sung of both the Duke of York and the King of France. From 1894 that it was sung of Napoleon.
