Geocache Description:

The Grandridge Rail Trail winds it's way from the township of Boolarra, through Darlimurla, up to Mirboo North in the Stzelecki Ranges. This trail follows part of the former branch line from Morwell to Mirboo North which opened in 1885. From Boolarra, the hilly country required many large cuttings, embankments and bridges. All were constructed by hand, as were the numerous brick culverts. The railway carried timber, dairy produce and passengers.  In its later years, the railway was used mainly for passengers. A rail motor service commenced after WWII and continued until the line was closed in 1974. The rail trail opened in the late 1990s. It was closed for some time following the Delburn Complex bushfires of January/February 2009. The two main bridges on the trail were significantly damaged by the fires and needed to be replaced by the steel arch bridges you see today. The 13km  trail is well maintained by the Friends of the Lyrebird Forest Walk Inc. aka Wednesday Warriors, a group of community volunteers who also care for the Lyrebird Forest Walk nearby. There is parking at either end and also parking at "Darlimurla Station" at the midway point. Giraffe_legs often unicycles along the trail with geodog Sabrina - say hello if you meet them on the trail.

Whilst not strictly on the rail trail, we wanted to highlight this wonderful piece of art at the site of the old Boolarra Saleyards. The detail in the sculpture is quite amazing. Take the time to read the information sign to find out the history. Should be an easy find.
