Geocache Description:

Welcome to a lesson in Enfield's beginnings. My hope is that you learn a little something about my hometown of Enfield. (And of course find the cache). I highly suggest you bring something to take notes on for this one. Pay very close attention to the questions and your answers. One wrong answer could keep you from log signing. Please no spoilers in your logs as they will be removed. I will also be checking in on the cache log book periodically. Feel free to tell your tale there, in the log book. Please only attempt this find during daylight hours and be stealthy and courteous at all stages. Thank you and happy caching.

To get from stage 1 to stage 2 solve for X and Y.

X=624-[(A-B)+C+D]

Y=530-(E+F+G-H)

Stage 2 coords will read as follows

N041° 58.X

W072° 35.Y

  • A. How many more families joined the Pease family from Salem and the vicinity?
  • B. How many "W"s on the sign?
  • C. What is the last digit of the year this sign was erected?
  • D. How many letters in the town in which this sign is placed?
  • E. The purchase price for the land that included what is now this town.
  • F. How many years did the King Phillips war last?
  • G. How many surveyors are mentioned on this sign?
  • H. How many times does the word "Nottatuck" appear on this sign?

Check your coords for stage 2 here.

Stage 2 instructions:

Here you'll be counting words. To subdue a little confusion, if you come across a hyphnated word, count it as 2 words. For example, in the sentence "The red-coats are coming", the word "coming" is the 5th word.

  • VI 27th word
  • IV 26th
  • III 1st
  • IV 10th
  • XIV 16th
  • XIV 17th
  • V 8th
  • VIII 35th
  • VIII 34th

Deep breaths... You're almost to the final.

Special thanks to LB0326 for helping me test the puzzles and coords.
