Geocache Description:

(LV) (!) Nemēģiniet pa trasi braukt ar auto. Nevajadzētu arī novietot auto vietā, kur gāzes trase šķērso autoceļu. Vislabāk, novietojiet to kartē atzīmētajā stāvvietā, un mazliet pastaigājaties.

Dodoties uz slēpni, droši vien jau būsiet pamanījuši gāzesvada trasi. Pašas caurules gan ir zem zemes, bet to esamību var nojaust… Viens šī vada gals ir Inčukalna pazemes krātuvē, no kura gāze dodas uz Rīgu, Liepāju, Daugavpili, Rēzekni utt. Arī uz Lietuvu.

Ņemiet līdzi savu rakstāmo. (BYOP)

(ENG) (!) Do not try to drive on the track. Also, the car should not be parked where the gas route crosses the road. It would be perfect, that you place car in the parking lot that is marked on the map and take a walk.

Going to the hideout, you will probably have already noticed the gas pipeline route. The pipes themselves are underground, but their existence can be sensed… One end of this pipeline is in the Inčukalns underground storage, from where the gas goes to Riga, Liepāja, Daugavpils, Rēzekne, etc. Also to Lithuania.

A brief history of gasification in Latvia:

In 1862, artificial gas factories were opened in Riga, which produced gas from coal to light the streets of Old Riga. Later, gas was also used in gas engines and households. The second gas factory in Riga was opened in 1875. In 1882, a gas factory was opened in Liepaja.

In 1949, liquefied petroleum gas was used in Latvia.

In 1962, a gas pipeline from Dashava to Ukraine reached Riga, and natural gas was used for the first time.

In 1968, the Inčukalns underground gas storage facility started operating.

In 1972, the Valdajs-Pskov-Riga gas pipeline was opened, which received gas from the Vuktila field in Western Siberia.

In the 1970s, a perspective plan for Latvia's gas supply was prepared, which provided for the construction of new gas pipelines and compressor stations.

In 1986, the construction of the Saurieši-Ogre-Jēkabpils-Daugavpils main gas pipeline was completed.

The construction of the Dobele underground gas storage was also planned, but it was not implemented.
