Car parks for the Sports Centre are located near The View Bar on Hill Lane/ Lordswood Gardens, Thornhill Road and on Dunkirk Road.
This is my first Geocache hide to celebrate finding 100 Geocaches. This is a short series of geocaches placed around Southampton Sports Centre. Sir Sidney Kimber, twice Mayor of Southampton, was the inspiration for this large park open to the public. The Sports Centre itself was officially opened in May 1958 by the Duke and Duchess of Kent. It covers 56 acres and hosts a variety of sports and activities available to all.
There are netball and tennis courts, hockey and football pitches, a BMX track, a Children’s Pleasure Park, a trim trail, cricket and rounder’s pitches, and even crazy golf! Plenty of places to go for a run, walk the dog, ride the bike, or just have a picnic.
I have spent countless hours in the sports centre, and I hope this Geocaching series will add to the love of the great outdoors!
Tread carefully as it can get muddy during the winter, and it can also get very busy during the summer and at weekends.
Please take notice of any private signs and please do not cut across any pitches during matches/games!
This Geocache is placed at the Winchester Road entrance to the Southampton Sports Centre. Be extremely stealthy and careful as it is a busy road! (I have placed this as a free Geocache, however the other Sports Centre Geocaches are premium) No parking on A35 Winchester RD.
Please place the cache back exactly as you found it, and ensure it is well hidden. Happy Caching!
