“Cabouco” é uma freguesia portuguesa do concelho da Lagoa (Açores), com 5,43 km² de área e cerca de dois mil habitantes. A sua densidade populacional é 368 hab/km².
Esta freguesia é denominada por Cabouco por outrora ali terem existido grandes “caboucos” ou pedreiras. Foi elevada a freguesia no ano de 1980, sendo assim a mais nova freguesia do Concelho da Lagoa.
Foi nas terras do Cabouco, durante o século XIX, que o desembargador Vicente José Ferreira Cardoso da Costa fez as primeiras experiências com a cultura do tabaco. Mandou vir sementes de tabaco e fez experiências na Quinta do Tanque e no Nordeste. Diga-se que este senhor foi trisavó da Dona Maria Luísa, figura incontornável da história do Cabouco. Nasceu no Brasil, em 1765 e morreu em Ponta Delgada no ano de 1834. Quando o Rei Dom Carlos I esteve em São Miguel deu o título de Visconde a um tio da Dona Maria Luísa, passando esta a ser Viscondessa.
Atualmente, o Cabouco é uma freguesia em grande crescimento. É a freguesia do Concelho que regista o maior índice de procura de casas e terrenos para a respetiva construção. Além disso, conta com uma zona industrial no seu termo, que já tem alguns milhares de metros quadrados de zona coberta.
A festa da sua padroeira, Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia, realiza-se no último domingo de setembro”.

“Cabouco” is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Lagoa (Azores), with an area of 5.43 km² and about two thousand inhabitants. Its population density is 368 inhab / km².
This parish is called Cabouco because there used to be large “caboucos” or quarries there. It was elevated to a parish in 1980, thus being the newest parish in the Municipality of Lagoa.
It was in the lands of Cabouco, during the 19th century, that the judge Vicente José Ferreira Cardoso da Costa made his first experiments with the culture of tobacco. He ordered tobacco seeds and experimented at Quinta do Tanque and in the Northeast. It should be said that this gentleman was great-grandmother of Dona Maria Luísa, an indispensable figure in the history of Cabouco. He was born in Brazil in 1765 and died in Ponta Delgada in 1834. When King Dom Carlos I was in São Miguel, he gave the title of Viscount to an uncle of Dona Maria Luísa, who became Viscondessa.
Currently, Cabouco is a rapidly growing parish. It is the parish of the Municipality that registers the highest index of demand for houses and land for the respective construction. In addition, it has an industrial area at its end, which already has a few thousand square meters of covered area.
The feast of its patron saint, Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia, takes place on the last Sunday of September ”.
