A Geocaching event in front of Southend Pier.
Meet on Thursday, 7th April, 2022 from 1pm for half an hour.

Shore station on Southend Pier opened in 1890 on the 28th May. The first trains were powered by electric and ran on the 3 ft 6 in gauge railway track. When the trains went diesel powered in 1986 the track was converted to a 3 ft gauge. The new trains are battery powered and are currently on test. The station was extensively rebuilt a couple of years ago after the local council, the owners, invested millions upgrading the pier and railway.

Trains run every half and hour from the Shore station on the hour and at half past. Return fare is £5.60. The train in service on the day could be the old diesel, or with luck, the new battery train. You can also walk over a mile to the Pier Head station for a quid, it's a very level walk. Meet the host just outside Shore station entrance next to the coffee shop. I'll be easy to spot, look for the cacher licking a locally made Italian ice cream! Feel free to exchange Trackables.
Unlike most SideTracked caches this IS designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view, well it is if you catch the train over a mile out at sea!
