Geocache Description:

17 April 2022, 07:00 - 09:00

The 2019 Flood Event eroded the Rowes Bay Esplanade in addition to the impacts of flooding throughout may suburbs of Townsville. Sand was excavated from Ross River for future flood mitigation and transported to Rowes Bay for Beach nourishment. Re-vegetation of the Rowes Bay Esplanade supports recovery of this area.

Meet at the listed coordinates, before being directed by Townsville City Council staff to:

  • Dig holes in the sand, (shovels & gloves provided & hole locations will be marked with wood pegs)
  • Mix potting mix, terracottem and sand together
  • Put the plants in (species written on wood pegs)
  • Fill holes over the plants – create bowl shape to hold water
  • Water plants

What to bring:

  • Full water bottle
  • Sun protection clothing
  • Sunscreen
  • Enclosed footwear (no bare feet, thongs, sandals)

As parking is limited please consider sharing transport with other attendees.
