For the second year, the North Dakota Park & Recreation Department (NDPRD) has issued a statewide “12 Months – 12 Hikes” challenge. To participate, just pick and hike one of the 21 qualifying trails. The trails are located in 13 participating state parks and you have the entire month to complete a hike. You can complete your hikes all in one park or explore any of 13 locations across the state. New this year: If you miss a hike/month, you can complete 1 of the 3 bonus hikes.
The North Dakota Geocaching Association (NDGCA) would like to help everyone complete the hiking challenge. To do this, we will be hosting an event in a different state park each month, so we can get together with other geocachers (though knowledge of geocaching not required).
We will meet at the trailhead to share stories & geo-chat until we begin our hike at 10:30am MST. We will be hiking the I Trail, which is about 2.25 miles. Be sure to prepare and dress appropriately according to weather and trail conditions. Don't forget your water! Small snacks and drinks will be served after the hike. I may even have some giveaway prizes for post-hike shenanigans.
Remember there is a $7 daily fee to enter state parks or an annual pass is required that can be purchased for $35.
