Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Ten Mile Creek Fun Run

Ten Mile Creek is a tributary of the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. Its banks are covered with native plants, cabbage palms, and live oaks covered with Spanish moss; some are studded with crimson-flowered air plants and reflected back from the mirror-like onyx surface of the water. At each bend, you may encounter a snake bird, water Turkey, anhinga, jumping fish or an alligator easing down an embankment.

During your paddle through the creek, you will pass by a few parks and preserves.

If you’d like to float downstream, it is suggested that you park at Richard Becker Preserve off Selvitz Rd. From there you will pass by the preserve and soon after, the Spoil Island Project. Further south on the creek, you will pass Sweetwater Hammock Preserve. As you drift down the oxbow, you will soon find your way to White City Park. There is a kayak launch located at the southern end of the park. Should you decide to continue your journey south, you will find yourself at the Petravice Family Preserve. There is a kayak launch there as well.

Whichever route you choose to take, enjoy your paddle through this historic tributary. Besides finding some fun caches, you may even come across a few pond apples along the way.
Have fun, be safe and BYOP.
