The Solomon Islands and, in particular, Guadalcanal was the location of dozens of pivotal battles between the Axis and Allied alliances during WWII. At this time, the Allied forces relied on support, protection, surveilance and intelligence gathering from the Solomon Scouts & Coastwatchers.
The Battle of Guadalcanal (aka Guadalcanal Campaign, Operation Watchtower) was a intense military campaign fought between 7 August 1942 and 9 February 1943 on and around the island eventually resulting in Japanese withdrawal from Guadalcanal and the beginning of Allied offensive operations in the Pacific.
Pride of our Nation is a moving sculpture created by Frank Haikiu CSI to honour the bravery, loyalty and courage of Solomon Scouts & Coastwatchers. It was dedicated on 7 August 2012, the 70th anniversary of the landing of US Marines on Guadalcanal.
Cache is tucked away behind the sculpture. Bring your own pen. This can be a busy muggle area, so stealth is required. Get busy looking at the sculpture and information boards. Locate the cache visually then sweep in. (Sunday morning is a great time to cache in Honiara as many people are at church).
