In the summer of 2001 Baltimore, Maryland unveiled the "Fish Out of Water" program, also called "Ichthyaius Baltimoris" (translation: Aerial fish from Baltimore). The program was comprised of roughly 180 six foot long, three feet high, one foot wide sculpted fish painted by area artist and displayed all over Baltimore to promote tourism. No two fish looked alike, they had titles like, Alley Catfish, Cast Iron Cal and Catch of the Day. There was a fish that resembled Edgar Allen Poe's Raven, a fish with colors of the Baltimore Ravens, a fish with a giant catchers mitt, a fish with a guitar sticking out it's mouth and a fish that was made to look like it was graduating from Med. school. Some were cool and some were goofy looking but they all were unique.
Most of these fish were auctioned off at private parties and on eBay. The money raised went to local youth organizations. Individuals and corporations purchased most of the fish locally and outside the state, some of them even went to Florida, Vermont and Maine. However, there are still quite a few scattered around Maryland on public view waiting to be logged.
