This CITO is going to be held in areas where "karast" features are common. Sheer drop offs are present. As well as hidden cracks in the earth. There is a risk of personal injury.
We will be volunteering to help the MKC. The Michigan Karst Conservancy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting awareness and preservation of unique karst features in Michigan. They also allow geocaching on their properties.
This CITO will take place at two locations. They are right across of road of each other, the Stevens Twin Sinks are at the posted waypoint and the Bruski Sink Parking waypoint (right across the road).
We will meet at the parking area for the Stevens Twin Sinks (posted waypoint) at 10:00am. I'm told that there will be some donuts available. The day's work plan and other details will be discussed. Some of the scheduled tasks will vary as available supplies may change the schedule.
Some personal items that you should bring are water, snacks, lunch, insect repellent, sun screen, hat, gloves and sturdy boots.
You will need to bring your own tools. Some suggestions would be a shovel, rake, hand pruner, pruning saw or lopper.
Some of the Stevens Twin Sinks and Bruski Sink tasks that we may work on are:
- Walk the trails – clear debris and if necessary clear the trails of downed trees, etc.
- Removal of invasive plants with Wayne Murphy.
The work should be completed by 12:00pm. We'll break for lunch (bring your own) before heading three miles north to Mystery Valley for another CITO there if you so chose to attend that event too.
If you have never been at the locations, now would be a good time to visit to see these wonderful Michigan karst features. There are several traditional and Earhcaches here.
I will be hosting CITO events at this location on the following dates;
July 1, 2023
August 5, 2023
September 9, 2023
October 7, 2023
