For decades I have passed by this hill while on the 110 Freeway or in the neighborhood. I finally got around to exploring it and thought (wait for it........) what a great spot for a geocache, or a future multi.
From this hill, you can see LA, Eagle Rock, Highland Park, Garvanza, South Pasadena, Arroyo Seco Park, Metro trains going by. I was here at dawn and heard a pair of owls hooting at each other.
This is not a quick gratification grab, and involves a short but strenuous hike. I'd try this one during daylight and dry weather. When the cache was placed in December 2023, the first part of the trail is steep, with numerous gopher holes, small rocks and debris to help you practice your footwork (are we having fun yet?) and.......part of the trail is bordered by tall brush. I suggest hiking shoes 🥾🥾and long pants
. I saw poison oak, although not on the trail. If you want to spend a little time here enjoying the view - pack first aid, comm, water, food - and something to sit on.
I've provided coordinates for parking, trailhead and reference points along the trail...although the trail is partly visible. (What is that weird concrete ring near the last waypoint, anyway?)
The cache? It's a reimagined supplement container with a log, a few foreign coins for swag and room for more swag. Note the use of locally sourced camouflage, and return the cache and camo properly. Please add your photos of the view to the gallery.
Updates:
As of May, 2025, I learned that (at least on one map) this is called Santa Fe Hill (or Sugarloaf Hill). Way before the MetroRail Gold Line, the Santa Fe Railroad ran along the same easement.
