Geocache Description:

"Gaining Support" is a 14-foot-tall, white polka-dotted, pink bra.

Originally known as "Losing Support", this 1990's circa polychrome metal sculpture by Peter John Larson started off red, white, and blue. The bra was created in protest to cuts in government funding of the arts. It stood on UND grounds until an administrator had it removed for being offensive.

The giant bra was salvaged, repainted, and renamed "Gaining Support" in support of breast cancer awareness. The restoration was done by 5 Star Collision and Glass & Bert's Truck Equipment. It found a home at ARTSplace and resided there until the business closed in 2015.

Today, "Gaining Support" is located in the plant nursery area of Tim Shea's Nursery and Landscaping. According to a Grand Forks Herald article, breast cancer awareness is important to Tim Shea because he lost his wife to the disease. While the sculpture is moveable, employees say that it stays put. If the bra is missing, please ask an employee for a tip and send the cache owner a message. This cache owner appreciates intel!

Access to "Gaining Support" is limited to during business hours as it is located within the nursery fence. In the winter, it can only be accessed by going through the store. The business is typically closed from January through early spring. It can be viewed from outside the fence, although not well.

The cache was placed with the permission of an employee.

To claim this cache, post a selfie with you (or your geo-nametag if you are photo-conscious) with the bra.
