Geocache Description:

29 February 2024, 08:00 - 08:45

Location: Wegmans at 4361 Newbrook Dr, Chantilly, VA 20151.  We'll meet in the inside seating area near the Food Court.

Purpose: All geocachers & nongeocachers are welcome to this event!

There is unlikely a more special day for geocachers than Leap Day. Whatever your date-oriented geocaching goals, you can only accomplish them once every four years on February 29th.  Leap on over because today is a chance to complete your calendar or at least get one important step closer. So, if you need to fill in February 29th on your event calendar, this is your chance to get to an early event.  Let's not waste this extra 24 hours, geocachers!  The last time Leap Day happened was in 2020 and it won't happen again until 2028.

For geocachers who started caching after February 2020, this is the first opportunity you've had to find a cache on Leap Day. I started caching in 2021 so we have a great big 0/ZERO finds/events/CITOS etc on February 29.  I'm hosting an event today to fill in the "event on February 29/Leap day" gap. Alas the "Other half of TemXMan" will be working so he's skipping this event however I'll be leaping into action & hope to have at least 29 finds today.  🐸  Wish me a luck!

People born on Leap Day are called 'Leaplings'

There are only about 5 million people in the whole world who were born on February 29, with the odds of being born on Leap Day standing at about 1-in-1,461. Several famous people—including actress and singer Dinah Shore (born 1916), motivational speaker Tony Robbins (born 1960) and hip-hop artist Ja Rule (born 1976)—are leaplings. Leaplings technically only get to celebrate their birthdays once every four years, but they do get to be part of an elite group.
