Once upon a time, 25 years ago .....
The history of geocaching began in May 2000, when US-American Dave Ulmer placed a hidden box in a forest in Oregon and published the coordinates on the internet. He called this type of treasure hunt "GPS Stash Hunt". The idea was simple: people could use the published coordinates to find the hidden container. They could take something out of the box and put something in it to give the next searcher a treat.
Ulmer's idea quickly spread on the internet and others began to organise similar treasure hunts. Within a few months, the term "geocaching" was coined and special websites such as geocaching.com were set up to share coordinates and clues for hidden caches worldwide.
We want to celebrate 25 years of geocaching
on 5 April 2025 in Mirow
It's time to polish your GPS devices and lace up your hiking boots, because we're celebrating a very special anniversary! For 25 years, geocaching has taken us through the most remote corners and hidden treasures of our world - and we want to celebrate this in style.
That's why we're inviting you back to Lake Mirower to celebrate this anniversary.
There is a gift from Seattle, HQ is giving us the opportunity to organise a special party.
Meet like-minded people: Swap stories with other geocachers, share your best finds and hear the exciting tales of other adventurers.
Grilled sausages: No party is complete without good food! We'll be serving delicious grilled bratwurst to keep you fuelled as you search for new caches.
Whether you're an experienced geocacher or just starting out in this exciting world, our anniversary event has something for everyone.
