Geocache Description:

We found this interesting spot while passing through the area. The following is taken from a sign at the site:

This scarred tree, between 150 and 200 years old, is about 5km from the Condamine River in the tribal area of the Githabul people.

It is believed to have provided bark for a large river canoe; unusual for its location on the Darling Downs. It is 3 metres longer than most other canoe tree scars, at 5.2m. It is 18 centimetres deep and a maximum of 70cm wide.

Protection of this indigenous cultural heritage site was undertaken in August 2005 by the Condamine Alliance catchment management group, in agreement with the Githabul Traditional Owners and the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines.

Funding for the protection of this historic site was provided by the Australian Government Natural Heritage Trust.
