Join me on an Adventure around Ashburn, Alices Adventure you ask? That's another series but this one should be just as fun and maybe a little more informative, interesting, illuminating, intrieging but not invisible.... unless you post a DNF, then I'll claim the cache is wearing it's invisibiltiy cloak - or the squirels got it... whichever you wish.
ASHBURN VA - Long ago was called Farmwell, or Farmwell Station a name dates back to early 1800's. But how did the name turn to Ashburn? There is a little bit of folklore behind this. It's said that a bolt of lightning struck an ash tree on a local farm. The tree reportedly burned so bright and smoldered for days. This caused such a ruckus that folks came from far and wide to check out this burning ash tree. And so the name was born. But that's just a wives tale, myth, story, or just downright hogwash- at least some say. Another story is that when it was called Farmwell this name was too close of a name to Farmville, another town kinda close... So someone, no one is quite sure who, possibly a senator from Nevada that had moved here, came up with Ashburn for whatever reason and that was that. Boring version I know, but most likley more of the truth. You can stick with whichever story you wish, I like the burning ash tree so I'll take that one. Makes a much more interesting conversation at least.
Part of the old town Ashburn is still around, it's a small section on Ashburn Road where the WO&D crosses. A few older buildings still stand here as memories of a simpler life. Maybe it was harder. It was another time, another way of life.
Current Ashburn is made up of different planned communities, I call them The 'Burns. They each have their own name within the Ashburn unbrella and all have shopping, pools, trails, homes and sporting options. The Village, The Farms, The Lakes, Belmont, Broadlands, Brambleton are the main 'burns. A few are newer or havn't quite caught on yet like Lexington Seven, One Loudoun, Kincora and Loudoun Station.
Welcome to the Village. The first of the 'burns. I've lived here almost 14 years now and have always enjoyed how this development was designed for families to live and thrive together as a community. The Village has Single Family Houses, Townhomes and Apartments to chose from when deciding to make this your home. There's a pavilion on the lake, full service fitness center, 7 pools, three shopping centers two elementary schools and a middle school (where my kickn' girl attended), several parks with basketball tennis, soccer, pickleball, playgrounds and finally many many trails and sidewalks to enjoy the view of it all. When in areas on the lakes you will see runners, walkers, pups, birds, insects, foxes, turtles, and there is at least on great blue heron that lives here. Fishing is catch and release if the mood strikes to take a geocaching break. I hope you find these locations as enjoyable to visit as I do and have fun finding the caches along the way.
🐶 Scout, I hope you have a good time taking your human geocacher around on the search, I dedicate this cache to you. Stop by and see me when you find it. 🐶
How to find this cache.
Go to the posted and sove the field puzzle below. You will need to look around for a few things.
- While looking at the lake while on the bridge. Turn around to your leftish/behindish and look up hanging on the deck to the bird house feeder. What is the primary color of the feeder?
- To the right between the path and the water you will see a beautiful tree hanging over the lake, what type of tree is this? (first word only, no need to enter "tree")
- If you look to the left you will see a pine with something colorful attached to it. What is it?
Put these three words together, no spaces into the checker below to receive the coords for the container.
