14 October - Helping Hazels at Netheridge
CITO 2024, Season 2
Sunday 1st September through Saturday 30th November 2024
Attend any CITO Event to earn the CITO Season 2 souvenir
Parking: There are lots of options for parking, see the relevant waypoints. Rea Lane is very narrow and so if you would prefer not to worry about parking then Sims Lane may be easier, if a bit of a longer walk to get to the meeting point. If you do attempt Rea Lane and find both suggested parking areas are full then you will need to park further up the lane and walk down.
Where: Find us at the headline coordinates for 1000, or make your way to the trail ahead way point and turn right to head towards the headline coordinates.
What: We will be helping the Hazel trees get back into their coppice rotation by cutting them down to stumps.
How: The warden will be there providing guidance. We ask you to bring your own gloves and if you have them tools, so if you have loppers, shears and a saw please do bring them along. Don't worry if you don't have them as the warden will have a supply too, but we will need you to log that you require tools.
If it has recently rained the site does tend to hold water and so wellies are advised.
Health and Safety: The session and will be covered by Gloucester County Council insurance as long as you are working under the warden's instruction.
Dogs: This is a nature reserve with Swan's living on the pond, in addition to wild deer roaming the area. If your dogs are reactive to wildlife then they unfortunately are not able to come to this site.
Lastly please make sure you bring along your own refreshments, it can be thirsty work!
