A PROTEÇÃO CIVIL tem como objetivos, prevenir os riscos inerentes a situações de acidente grave ou catástrofe, bem como resolver os efeitos decorrentes de tais situações, socorrendo pessoas e protegendo bens.

17 de Fevereiro de 1982 - Criação do Serviço Regional de Protecção Civil da Madeira, na dependência directa da Presidência do Governo Regional.

7 de Setembro de 1998 - É criada a Equipa Médica de Intervenção Rápida (EMIR) para intervenção no âmbito da emergência pré-hospitalar, com carácter permanente, em toda a Região.

20 de Outubro de 2014 - Inauguração dos Cenários de Formação destinados à ação formativa do Centro de Formação de Proteção Civil e Bombeiros.
Atualmente funciona o CMA, sendo base do helicóptero H-35, único meio aéreo que opera no combate a incêndios rurais na Região Autónoma, tripulado por uma brigada de bombeiros (8 homens) e em missões se SAR (Busca e Salvamento) tripulado por 2 recuperadores e um recuperador de guincho, sendo sempre operado por 2 pilotos.

- 17 February 1982 - Creation of the Regional Civil Protection Service of Madeira, under the direct responsibility of the Presidency of the Regional Government.
- 7 September 1998 - The Rapid Intervention Medical Team (EMIR) is created to intervene in pre-hospital emergencies on a permanent basis throughout the region.
- 20 October 2014 - Inauguration of the training scenarios for the Civil Protection and Firefighters Training Centre.
The Air Resources Centre (CMA) is currently the base for the H-35 helicopter, the only aerial vehicle operating to fight rural fires in the Autonomous Region, manned by a team of firefighters (8 men) and on SAR (Search and Rescue) missions manned by 2 retrievers and a winch retriever, always operated by 2 pilots.
