This CITO is a simple last chance to obtain the 2024 Season 2 CITO Souvenir!!! We will officially start at 8:30am and be collecting trash until 10:00am. It is a good chance to walk off some Thanksgiving calories and clean up the Muddy Creek Wetlands Management Area on Industrial Road in Theodore, Alabama. Maybe you'll make a few new friends or see some old ones, while helping the environment!!! Please log a will attend so I know I have enough supplies.
I will have garbage bags and vinyl gloves. If you have *pick up devices* or your own gloves, please do bring them. There *MAY* be a port-a-potty at the trailhead, but there are no official restrooms. I will have an open tent, small table and a couple of chairs. If you want to sit & visit, please bring a chair. I'll have a cooler of water. You may interact with trackables as others have them available.
There are more than a dozen traditional caches hidden out on the trail. If it has rained just before, you may need *mud shoes* to reach a few of them. This is deep woods, wetlands, with poisonous plants & insects- dress accordingly, and you *could* need bug spray. Some of the trail is wooden boardwalk, but a good portion is woodland trail with thorny vines and protruding roots or muddy/wet spots along the way. This is the reason for the terrain rating. WATCH YOUR STEP!! Children and pets are welcome on the trail!!!! (Use leashes accordingly!! LOL). You could see wild animals, as this is a habitat management area.
The Muddy Creek Wetlands Management Area consists of 200 acres of restored wetlands and adjacent uplands managed by the Alabama State Port Authority to mitigate for construction impacts on the Theodore Channel. In cooperation with the Alabama Department of Corrections, restoration actions included clearing rubbish, removing invasive, non-native plants, replanting over 20,000 native trees and shrubs, erecting 80 nest boxes and building an extensive trail system.
