Located in the heart of the metropolis of Tokyo, the 145-acre Shinjuku Gyoen is a beautiful, nature-rich healing spot.
Shinjuku Gyoen was constructed on the site of a private mansion belonging to a “daimyo” (feudal lord) Naito, at the Edo era (1591). The government-managed agricultural experiment station was established in 1872, and after that it became imperial estate, completed in 1906 as an imperial garden. It developed as a palace garden for international diplomacy, re-designated as a national garden after the World War Ⅱ and opened to the public.

大都会東京のど真ん中に位置する「新宿御苑」。東京ドーム12個分もの大きさを誇る、自然豊かで美しいまさに"都会のオアシス"として愛される癒しスポットです。
ルーツは江戸時代に徳川家康の家臣・内藤清成が賜った大名屋敷。明治維新後に国営の農事試験場「内藤新宿試験場」が創設され、宮内省の御料地を経て、明治39年(1906)に皇室庭園として誕生しました。
戦前までは国際外交向けのパレスガーデンとして運用されていましたが、昭和24年(1949)5月21日に「国民公園新宿御苑」として一般に公開されました。最初の入園料は20円で、翌年3月までの10ヶ月間で105万人もの入園者数を記録したそうです。
重要文化財に指定されている「旧洋館御休所」をはじめ、日本庭園やヨーロッパ式の整形式庭園、温室に広々とした芝生など四季折々の自然が楽しめる国民公園（国民公園は皇居外苑、新宿御苑、京都御苑の3つのみ）です。ゆっくりしていってね。
