Fremantle Railway

This rail line was opened on 1st August 1881, running from Fremantle to Guildford via Central Perth. It was then extended to Bellevue in 1884 and again later to Northam. It started as a single line and was duplicated in 1897 with a freight line being added later. Passenger services were suspended in 1979 due to financial losses on the railway compared to buses. Closure was strongly opposed and with a change of government in 1983 services were restored.
