This special cache celebrates Hawaii and its deep connection to the skies above. Here on the Big Island we stand on the tallest mountain on Earth when measured from base to summit. Mauna Kea rises from the floor of the Pacific and reaches higher than Mount Everest when measured in this way.
With clear dark skies and very little light pollution, this sacred mountain is one of the finest locations on the planet for stargazing and exploring the universe. From here you can witness the Milky Way, brilliant constellations, distant galaxies, and stories written in the heavens by generations of Native Hawaiians. These skies are sacred and so is the land. Mauna Kea holds tremendous cultural and spiritual importance, where science and tradition exist together.
The posted coordinates bring you to a sidewalk. Look toward the south and you will see an image of a girl wearing blue slippahs. The Cache Odyssey container is tucked in the spare tire compartment just below her.
