This particular cache highlights one of the founders of Hastings, MN in Henry Bailly. Henry was an early settler of Hastings, MN and is even known for being the first permanent resident of the area. He served on the Minnesota Territory legislature as well as the 1st Minnesota legislature. Not only is he credited as being a founder of Hastings, but he is also a veteran serving in Civil War.
In 1853 the town was given a new name by the major landholders Alexis Bailly, Henry G. Bailly, Alexander Fairbault, and Henry Hastings Sibley. All put potential names into a hat and Hastings was the name drawn.
