Event Title: 12 Months/12 Hikes  – Lake Sakakawea

Event Description:

Let's meet for a ❄️Winter Hike❄️ and some GeoChatting!

When: Sunday 1st of February @ 10:00am

Where: Lake Sakakawea State Park - Shoreline Trail 2.8 miles

Why: For the sixth year, the North Dakota Park & Recreation Department (NDPRD) has issued a statewide “2026 Hiking Challenge” with a fresh hiking challenge every season of 2026.  To participate, just pick and hike a qualifying trail in one of the 14 state parks.  You can complete your hikes all in one park or explore any of 14 locations across the state.

The North Dakota Geocaching Association (NDGCA) would like to help everyone complete their hiking challenge.  To do this, we will be hosting an event in a different state park each month, so we can get together with other geocachers and hike.

What: Excited to have the first 12 month 12 hike event of the year.  Dress for the weather, snow shoes maybe helpful.  We will meet at the visitor center visit a bit and head out on the hike at 11:10am, just in case anyone is running late. We will hike as far as the group feels comfortable depending on the weather and then return to the visitor center.  I will have some refreshments and possible a door prize.  This hike will help with your Winter Season hikes and we will hopefully see some Wildlife Tracks.

Reminders: A daily pass ($7) or annual ND state park pass ($35) is required to enter. Dress for the weather/trails
