Geocache Description:

Sat 23 May 2026 10:00 to 11:30

This CITO is in support of the Cherhill community and Cherhill Parish Council to refresh the chalk on the Cherhill White Horse.  Your chance to get up close and personal to this ancient monument and help preserve it for the future.

The work on the White Horse is being organised by the Cherhill Community. We will be supporting them from 10.00 - 11.30 to help get them off to a good start.  No booking is necessary, just turn up at the CITO co ordinates and I will direct you to the sign up point where the organisers will provide you with safety instructions and guidance.

There is a 20 minute uphill walk from the car parking locations to the white horse / event co ordinates.  Please wear suitable clothes and footwear for the climb and for when working on the slippery slope.  As the name suggests, you will be working with chalk so please wear clothing you don't mind getting a bit dirty.  Please bring a sturdy pair of gloves.

There are no facilities such as water, food or toilets at the site so please do bring your own water and food.

You can work at your own pace and there will be an opportunity to chat to other cachers before, during and afterwards.

This event is on the top of the hill that can be exposed to the elements.  I recommend being prepared for all kinds of weather, eg bring a hat, suncream and waterproof clothing.

If the weather forecast is bad for the day then this event maybe cancelled.  I will endeavour to make any announcements on this page as soon as I get the information.  To receive announcements via this page please log a "will attend".

This event will be followed by a second event - Picnic on the Hill - Cherhill (GCBM2NF) where you can relax, chat and enjoy the extended views of the Wiltshire countryside, so please don't forget your picnic blankets, food and refreshments.

Celia and I look forward to welcoming you to this event.
