Geocache Description:

The town of Flint has no geocaches, but there will be an event at the castle on
Wednesday, 22nd April 2026, 10.15am to 11am.

The historic Flint Castle is the unusual venue of this geocaching event - at the top of the tower with stunning views all around. Join the host (who will be touring the north Wales coast) to chat about all things geocaching. The castle is free to enter, open from 10am to 4pm. Car parking waypoint is given, that's free too (at the time of publishing). Do note, there are a few flights of stairs to reach the top of the tower!

A brief history of Flint Castle - built by King Edward the First to conquer Wales. Work started in 1277 and was completed in 1284 based on a French design similar to Dourdan castle. The Welsh besieged the castle a couple of times soon after completion. By the end of the 13th century the Welsh Wars had concluded. It wasn't until 1647 that the castle was once again besieged - this time by the Parliamentarians. The Royalists held off for three months. Oliver Cromwell had the castle turned into a ruin, as we see it today, to prevent it from ever being used again.
