One Day. Many Communities. A World of Difference.
A little over 2 years ago georeyna, a geocacher in Houston, TX asked a simple question - What could happen if geocachers around Texas came together on one day to make their communities cleaner? Based on that simple question, Texas Geocaching Association (TXGA) created an event named CITO Across Texas in conjunction with World Cleanup Day.
Geocachers throughout Texas held cleanup events on the third Saturday in September. Each event is locally organized, but together they became part of something much bigger. CITO Across Texas was born!
The results have been tremendous. During 2024 and 2025:
- More than 50 CITO events were held across Texas.
- More than 700 volunteers participated.
- Thousands of pounds of trash were removed from parks, trails, waterways, neighborhoods, and other public spaces.
In 2026, we want to take the next step and we are inviting the worldwide community of geocachers to help clean up our game board.
About our CITO:
Come and join me in cleaning up our local Game Board around Fairy Lake Park here in Newmarket, Ontario.
Meet me at the Gazebo's, posted coordinates, to sign-in, grab a CITO kit and have a quick chat, then follow the trails through-out the park picking up garbage as you go. We will be cleaning up the park from Water Street to Mulock Avenue. You can choose to clean up trail side, along the shores of the pond or river but watch out for the "Canadain Air Force" if you do. They do bit.
Please be back to the posted coordinates by 5:30 pm with your full garbage bag for a group photo and relax with some cold water and chat with fellow geocachers. There should be some picnic benches in the area but it might be good to bring a chair if the group get too big.
What to Bring:
* Grab Sticks
* Work Gloves (vinyl gloves are provided)
* Camp Chair
* Snack
