Daviskw: I hope we can work something out with the Forest Service in the future. I should have requested to place this cache and we would not have wasted our time.
Wouldn't it be nice if the Forest Service would place it's own cache...maybe fill it with patches or park information. Better yet, set up a series of virtual caches at interesting or special areas of a wilderness. Then when appearing at the last cache, the Forest Service office, be able to get a patch for that Wilderness. Maybe some information picked up along the way would be needed to confirm the course was visited, in order to get the patch.
I love Missouri’s Wilderness areas, they have much to offer and I would hate to see them excluded from Geocaching.

Geocache Description:

A rugged and isolated wilderness in southwestern Missouri. The shallow soils and rock outcroppings form expansive open glades more reminiscent of alpine country than the usual Ozark forests.

The wilderness can be reached by Highway 125 from the east, Blair Ridge Road from the south and Broken Back Bridge Road from the west. I parked at the forest tower campground at N36 41.078 W92 53.022. From the top of the forest tower you can see the lights of Branson twinkling like diamonds in the distance. You can also see the Upper Pilot Knob where the cache is hidden 3.5 miles away. The last half-mile is off trail and those attempting this cache should have map and compass reading skills. Bring plenty of water there is none on the trail. Maps are provided at the trailheads, I used the trail from the north side of the tower. If you use the Long Creek Branch trail be prepared for a 600-foot elevation differential to the cache. Good luck and good hunting.
