Don't Drink the Water Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Pairadocs_Plus: A private property fence has appeared around the entire area. Although it is down in at least one prominent spot, in the interest of obeying the wishes of property owners and of not get geocachers arrested for trespassing, we will archive the cache. If, like the all the other plans to develop the property (over the last few decades), this goes away, we may reactivate the cache, but it won't be soon. Thanks to all who have used and watched it.

Geocache Description:

A full-size cache, even though it's urban. There are many public parking areas 0.5 to 1 mile away. Although the area close to the cache is criss-crossed with paths, many of which would be accessible to a vehicle without 4-wheel drive, to drive in will require luck, persistence, or reading the encrypted hint.

Half a century ago, this, along with surrounding neighborhoods, was a city landfill. Chemicals that were dumped then are now leaking into the aquifer, have led to city water wells being closed, and a rather expensive cleanup of the aquifer is now underway. Above ground, it's safe, and is used by dog walkers, dirt bikers, RC plane enthusiasts, rabbits, hawks, coyotes, etc. Although plans to develop the area as a golf course, condos, a big box store, or something else surface every few years, we think we'll be able to leave the cache there for quite a few years.
