Mini Grain Elevators - But Not For Grain
How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
While driving around rural Alberta, I’ve noticed a number of small-scale grain elevators placed usually at the entrance to farms and acreages. Most of them seem to be shelters for children while waiting for school buses. They bring a nostalgic remembrance to the distinctive shape of the many large grain elevators that once dotted the prairies and are slowly being dismantled and demolished. Is there one of these small-scale elevators near you?
Please take a look at the photo to see what you should be looking for.
This one is located east of Calgary and north of Langdon on highway 797. It stands about 8ft. tall, 3ft. wide and 6ft. long. N 51° 01.780 - W 113° 40.756
Your task is to locate one of these mini-elevators and log the find. There is another one east of High River, Alberta.
Standard locationless cache rules apply:
- the structure must be large enough to house a child, no models please
- one log per person
- one log per elevator
- indicate the nearest town, province/state
- provide a photo of the structure with your GPS showing the location
- if possible, give dimensions of the mini-elevator and any other points of interest
- posts without photos will be deleted, please don’t log your post until photos are ready to be uploaded
