Geocache Description:

This cache is dedicated to Wilkesboro which is another little Oregon town that has come and gone. By 1911 the railroad finally arrived at Wilkesboro (near Banks) but by 1923 passenger service had pretty much ended and the trains just passed through. There are a handful of houses in the area that still cling to the name but that's about it. What happened to Wilkesboro is a puzzle... finding this cache involves solving a puzzle.

Wilkesboro Puzzle
The coordinates listed above will take you to the town of Wilkesboro however, there is no reason to go there and there certainly is not much to see. To locate this cache you must solve a simple word search puzzle. The parking coordinates for the cache are contained within the puzzle. I suppose you could solve the puzzle right from the computer screen or the data sheet printout but it will be better if you download the puzzle, print it out and read the instructions. Solving the puzzle will only get you the parking coordinates, there is more information on the download page.

Go to THIS location to download the puzzle and instructions. Then use the browser print button to print it.

Note: The puzzle print out is meant to be printed with Courier New size 12 font, your browser may not be set to that font. If the print out is too small or does not line up very well, you may need to save the downloaded page as a text file then load it into a word processor to change the font.

Do you see a stop sign? When you arrive at the parking location you should see a stop sign at about 60 feet distance. If not, you are in the wrong parking area. The cache, a 4x4x2 snap lock, is about 250 feet away and not in the parking area. Please be sure the cache is well hidden when you are finished.
Note: The cache was at a nice safe easy to find location until ODOT put up a No Tresspassing sign. You can still park at the same place but the cache was moved to a location across the highway. This cache is no longer kid friendly. Please be very careful when crossing the highway.
