THIS PARK IS CLOSED DUSK TO DAWN. THAT MEANS IT IS CLOSED WHEN IT IS DARK OUT. IF I RECEIVE A SINGLE ADDITIONAL LOG THAT STATES THEY FOUND THIS GEOCACHE AFTER DARK, I WILL PERMANENTLY ARCHIVE AND REMOVE THIS CACHE!!! Don't be that person who gets the oldest cache in the state archived!
Brenton Point is our second geocache and the first in Rhode Island. It’s located at Brenton Point State Park on the southernmost tip of Newport, Rhode Island. Find your way to downtown Newport and follow Thames Street (the main drag) until you see the signs for Ocean Drive. Follow Ocean Drive as it winds its way past the upscale homes that define Newport. After about two miles or so, you’ll pass Fort Adams State Park on your right. Soon you'll see Hammersmith Farm, the former home to the Kennedy's, also on your right. Continue and within a mile or so the rocky coast will appear on your right. Another mile or so and you will see signs for Brenton Point State Park on your left. Turn left into the state park and follow the signs for parking.

Brenton Point is home to a wide range of outdoor activities. Many folks come here to look at the ocean, picnic, wander the trails, climb on the rocks and our favorite, fly kites. You might want to find the stone tower (N 41 deg 27.216 min W 071 deg 21.216 min (WGS-84)) located about 1/4 mile north of the parking area in the woods for a bit of a view.

The cache is a medium-sized Lock & Lock.

Winter note: Cache will be hard to locate in substantial snow.
