Geocache Description:

One of the nicest places in the Augusta area. Take Central Street out of Hallowell, go under Interstate, bear left as road bends. Take right onto Outlet Road, continue 1 mile, take right onto Jamies Pond Road (maps show it as Meadow Hill Rd), follow over major potholes until you see "boat launch" sign (first left), take left and continue to parking lot.

You can see the cache site from the parking lot, but unless you like to swim, canoe, or kayak, it's about a 0.8 mile walk on well-marked trails. (Seriously, it's a great place for non-motorized boats, and you can get to the cache from the water.) Cache is near a very nice spot for lunch. We saw a Pileated Woodpecker on the walk out, a beautiful spring day. Bring bug spray if its spring or summer.

[Note: The City places barriers about half way down Jamies Pond Road in the winter, which will increase the hike by about a 1/2 mile. The barriers are removed once the road drys out and then you can park right on the pond. See Danosphere entry on 3/28/04 for alternative way of getting to it.]
