A tough hike to a stunning view on Fishkill Ridge.
South African trumpet player Hugh Masakela would really be tooting his horn about this spot. He would not be grooving on the quarry down below, and he would be positively horrified to learn of plans to build a quarry 3 times as big on this ridge, tearing away the mountain to make gravel to an elevation of 800 feet. Enjoy the view while you still can!
You can access this trail via the Wilkinson Trail. The trailhead is on Old Albany Post Road (Uhl Road on the Trail Conference map) at the junction of Reservoir Lane. Park just before this road, right in front of the bridge. There are signs saying Private Road and Keep Out, but don't be concerned, just follow the yellow blazes up the road, turning up the right bank of a stream.
Once on top, you will want to follow the white Fishkill Ridge trail to the cache. You can turn right where the white trail branches off, but this is the long way. I continue on the yellow until I hit an ATV track that cuts off the trail just where there is a large tree across it, and follow this track up to a wood road just below the abandoned bulldozer. You can pick up the white trail here at dozer junction and follow it as it winds it way north, but I often stay on the wood road for a little longer until it drops down into a dip and cut over to the white trail here, which is only 10 meters away. the white trail makes it's way along a grassy ridge before breaking out at the vista that is very near the cache location. Please rehide the cache just as you found it.
