This cache is placed near the site of a DC-8 Cargo Plane Crash in Narrows, VA. We didn't see any remaining wreckage, but there is now a memorial is present at the site.
The cache is hidden at the base of a tree near the memorial, covered by tree bark. There are a number of jeep trails in the area that will help you get to the cache-- the terrain difficulty will vary depending on the route.
There is a nice local man who will unlock a gate to a dirt road for you-- that road goes right up to the memorial marker-- in fact, near the top you'll see a road sign that says "Airplane Memorial Road". If you are interested in this route, email us for more details (we want to make sure this man is not bothered too much).
For most of the jeep trails, we'd recommend you take a 4WD vehicle. When you get to the clearing that contains the memorial marker, be wary of the cardboard tubes in the grass. We encountered at least one which was home to a family of wasps.
Original contents of the cache include:
*log book and pen (if someone can bring a pencil, that would be great)
*A printout with the details of the crash
*A disposable camera (you may take it-- it isn't intended as a log camera)
*A picture frame
*Slackmeister's cache mix CD
*A commerative stamp pin
*Extra AA batteries
*A light switch cover
We hope you enjoy exploring the countryside by Narrows, learning about the crash and finding the cache.
