Welcome to the series of the Lookout Below caches. This one is at Park Butte Look Out, which is intact and maintained.
BE ONE OF THE VERY FEW PEOPLE TO DO THIS CACHE!!!!
Directions: Take SR 20 East from Burlington to the Baker Lake road then north to FS Rd. #12 (just after you cross the Rockey Creek Bridge into Whatcom County. Follow the gravel FS road #12 east to FS road #13 and turn north and follow to the end at Schriebers Meadow at 3,300'. Hike 3.5 miles up the trail to the Park Butte Lookout. Pick a clear day so you can see the glaciers on the south side of Mt. Baker.
Park Butte Lookout was built by the Forest Service in 1932 as a fire lookout. Roy Evans packed in all of the materials with horses as a packer for the FS and it was a 2 day, 23 mile trip back then - all the way from Birdsview on the Skagit River before the road was built. See Roy's 94 cache at zip code 98239. The lookout is maintained by the Skagit Alpine Club in Mt. Vernon and donations are always welcome.
Please make sure that you re-hide the cache well and be carful of prying eyes, and ears, as alot of people go up to the lookout.
Please e-mail us the first finder of the log as they didn't log their find and we want to know who it was.
