Geocache Description:

This cache is surrounded by water... warm weather accessible only by boat... wintertime ice crossing required.

We find the history of this area fascinating. The cache is located upstream of the Village of Delta, which ceased to exist in 1912. Over 200 families were relocated prior to the creation of this body of water. The dam at the south end of this lake was created to provide a controllable source of water for the Barge Canal. While in the area, stop at the dam site, still visible, and crossable, are the old aqueduct and many of the locks from the Black River Canal which once followed the original stream bed. This is a traditional ammobox cache, started with some items useful for a stay in the area. Please replace cache carefully, we will not be back until next year.
