JBGeo: I will always do my best at supporting organizations or groups when they have set rules or guidelines to follow pertaining to a given subject. Although, I am not comfortable with what I feel to be an overwhelming list of rules for caches placed in Dupage County Forest Preserves. There have been nearly 100 finds on this cache since it was placed over two years ago. Most all of those 100 people would have never come to this area if it had not been for Geocaching, nor would the majority of them have known that this place even existed. That is one of the many neat things of caching. Caching brings you to places you never even knew were there, many times in your our back yard.
With all due respect, (for the most part) I think DPCFP is chasing a problem that does not exist. I would think they would encourage caching in order to bring people to their Forest Preserves. I feel this new system is doing the reverse of that and discourages cache placement. Whenever I have been to this cache it is just as it was when it was placed. A large part to that is the cache container, which happens to be an ammo can. Best cache container there is, although not permitted with DPCFP. Plastic containers get over packed, lids don’t close, contents get wet, animals chew on the containers, etc. Next thing you know, there are contents wet and scattered everywhere.
So given my limited options, I felt it was best to just archive this one and look at other non-DPCFP locations for placing caches in the future.
