How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
This is the first of a multi part series of caches located in the upper Paugussett State Forest in Newtown CT. Part 1 is very easy, part 2 a bit more difficult and the "killer", part 3, should not be attempted by those without much practice, patience and perseverance. Its for the "SKY TREK's etc...in some of us.
There are 2 parking areas, A and B, with 3 ways of shuttling between them.
1 A jeep trail ( no motor permitted ) mountain bike and x-ski ok.
2 A hiking trail, blue blaze, small, narrow, foot only.
3 Driving via "scenic road" Sanford and Tamarack Rds, they are unimprooved, and at times a bit rough, drive carfully.
Parking A 41 26.987 73 18.418 is at the end of Echo vally Rd, keep triangle with well on your right, look for official state signs. Examine map posted at information kiosk here.
Parking B 41 27.579 73 19.494 is at Pond Brook boat launching for Lake Lillinonah.
This multi part cache series is multi seasonal, however, a severe snow storm with heavy drifting will cover up crevices containing caches making finding near impossible. A light, fluffy snow fall, max 6 inches, should not totally hide caches or info micros. All micro's are informational only, no logging possible, the caches are metal ammo cans with logs and "goodies" and FTF prizes.
Please rehide all caches the way you found them, partially but not totaly hidden from casual view by muggles, allow some of the ammo cans to peek out, so next cacher not need to do exesive rock scrambling and digging and get frustrated. This is supposed to be challenging but still fun.
As a state forest, hunting is permitted. During hunting season, avoid or take precautions [ orange blaze ]
Recommended procedure: do all caches in numerical sequence starting with part 1.
