Mt. Walker has an elevation of about 2800’ with excellent views of the east Olympic mountains, Puget Sound, Hood Canal, and Mt. Rainier. It is located off of Highway 101 about 5 miles south of Quilcene.
There is a dirt road to the top of Mt. Walker that branches off to two viewpoints. The cache is hidden just off the loop road at the north viewpoint. During the winter, the road may be closed (call the Quilcene ranger station for road conditions at (360) 765-2200). If the road is closed or if you prefer a good hike, there is a trail (visit link) that starts about ¼ mile up the road from Highway 101. The trail steeply climbs about 2000’ in 2 miles. You can also hike up the road 4 miles to the top. Or walk up the road and down the trail for a 6 mile round trip hike. Add a couple of stars to the terrain rating for any of the hiking options.
