Geocache Description:

An informal get-together for geocachers and their families on Saturday, January 31, 2004. Given Jefferson City’s central location (2 hours from St. Louis or KC), hopefully we will meet folks from SLAGA, KC and Ozark Mountain Geocachers for an afternoon of caching and an evening of eating and fellowship. Special lodging rates have been arranged with local hotels for those wishing to stay overnight. This event is co-sponsored by Jefferson City Parks and Recreation.

What better way to beat the winter blues with Geocaching and a potluck. We begin by gathering at McClung Indoor Pavilion (the coordinates posted above) at about 12 noon. Then we’ll go out to hit some caches. There are a number of caches in Jeff City and more will be placed prior to the event. Three Bucks Cache (GCGXMD) is in McClung Park. Once it gets dark (around 6pm), we will then come back for eating and telling ‘war stories’.

McClung Pavilion, our headquarters for the day, has a full kitchen including an oven, microwave, refrigerator and sinks for cleaning up.

I will provide the meat (a turkey and ham) and eating supplies (plates/utensils/napkins) for the potluck. Everyone attending should bring side dishes, salads, desserts and beverages. While alcohol is permitted in the park, we would like to preserve a family atmosphere at the potluck.

Special lodging rates have been negotiated with area hotels for those wishing to stay overnight. Prices range from $42 to $67 depending on number of beds and which hotel you wish to stay. For a complete listing of hotels and prices, please email Lazylightning with your request.

A special thanks to Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Department for providing us with the pavilion.

Attendance Fee:
$0 - The only expense is gas money to get to Jeff City and the caches you visit, what ever you are bringing to eat/drink and batteries for your GPS.

Who Can Attend:
All geocachers and their families, park officials or those interested in geocaching are welcome.

Who's all coming?:
who's coming and what they are bringing

What will be provided:
Meat (turkey and ham), eating supplies (plates/utensils/napkins), event caches, setup and cleanup.

What Attendees Bring:
Bring side dish, salad, dessert or beverage. Don't forget your GPS. The pavilion has electric outlets, stove, microwave, refrigerator and sinks, which can use for food warmers.

McClung Park is located at 1115 Chestnut St, Jefferson City, 65101. It is located directly across from the Lincoln University Football Stadium.
Take Highway 54 to the Stadium/Lincoln University exit and go right. At the first stop light (Stadium) - go right. Stadium dead-ends in Leslie at a stop sign - go right. Chestnut is the next street - go left.

Go to and click on the Geocaching link, a map will be there! (Of course all you expert land navigators won't need any of this!)

If you are planning to attend please post a note (or send an email) with the following info:

1. How many people will be coming with you?
2. What dish or beverage you bringing?
3. Any suggestions for a special activity other than hitting established caches that you’d like to do.

Hope to see everyone there!
