Geocache Description:

The 2004 Texas State Geocaching Extravaganza will be held March 27-28, 2004, at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch near Bridgeport, Texas. The event is being hosted by the Longhorn Council, BSA, in conjunction with their annual Spring Orienteering Meet.
NOTICE!!
Entry forms for O-courses and meal packages must be received by 3/17!

PRE-REGISTRATION THROUGH THE SCOUTS WILL BE REQUIRED. The registration packet is now available this link in .pdf format.
The details of the event are still coming together, but some of the planned highlights include:
  • A 2-day timed multi-cache (do one multi-cache on Saturday, one on Sunday, add the times together, fastest 3 cumulative times place.) Expect a course much like a traditional multi-cache (approx 4/3.5 rating, 3-5 km long with 10-12 points each day). Or, if you prefer, there will also be 6 different regulation orienteering courses available. Geocachers who have at least a little experience with compass and topo maps might enjoy an orienteering course rated Yellow, Orange, or Brown for change or challenge. Entries are also accepted for 2-person teams on any of the orienteering courses. There will be awards given by age category for each orienteering course. Due to smaller classes for the GPS course there are no age categories. Want to try out an orienteering course to see what it's like without competing? Try participating as a Map Hiker, then think multicache to imagine the GPS competition course.
  • Night-time team event, sort of a multi-cache with a theme. Timed, with prizes for the fastest completions. It is expected that there will be both map/compass classes and map/GPS classes. Pre-registration for this event is not required.
  • 18 new caches, of varying degrees of difficulty, with clues leading to a final "bonus cache" with a First Finder's prize. Also 21 caches from last year's event are still in place!
  • Geocaching seminars on various topics. Scheduled topics so far include:

    Geocaching/Orienteering Classes
    Course Name
    Time (Saturday)
    Instructor(s)
    Geocaching 101
    9:00AM
    10:00AM
    HackAttack and  Brokenwing
    Camouflaging Cache Pods
    3:30PM
    TexasTiger & GeoVamp
    Orienteering Beginner's Clinic
    9:00, 9:30,
    10:00, 10:30AM
    NTOA

Please contact me if you have a seminar topic you would like to have added, or would like to lead.

BONUS CACHE! There will be one very difficult BONUS CACHE, containing a certificate for a SPECIAL PRIZE

Though the exact description of the bonus prize has not yet been released by the BSA, we know that it will contain at least a rechargeable battery kit containing a rapid charger, AC and DC adapters for home or auto use, a battery tester, battery carrying cases, and 4 AA 2000mAh NiMH batteries valued at approximately $50!

Sid Richardson Scout Ranch is a 2500+ acre ranch west of beautiful Lake Bridgeport in North Texas. Many types of caches will be available for geocaching, ranging from easy 1/1 caches to a 4/4 multicache. Most cache containers are small ammo boxes, and there will be 39 caches (plus 1 BONUS cache with prize) in all.

Since Geocaching.com does not approve temporary/limited access caches for GC.com listings, all of the caches found at the event will be logged on this single cache page. The caches that can be logged include:

1. The event itself

"EVENT"
2. The GPS competition course
"GPS COURSE"
3. The night-time team multi-cache
"NIGHT-O"
4. 21 regular caches not involved in this year's bonus cache hunt.
"SR-1" through "SR-21"
5. 18 regular caches which are also involved in this year's bonus cache hunt.
"SR0401" through "SR0418"
6. BONUS cache

So it is possible that someone could have 43 found logs on this page.

Please indicate which cache you are logging at the beginning of each log entry. Each of the physical caches will be named "SR-1" through "SR-20 or "SR0401" through "SR0418".
