Geocache Description:

Curral das Freiras is a parish belonging to the municipality of Câmara de Lobos.

At the beginning of the colonization, the Curral das Freiras had only the designation Curral or Curral da Serra, deriving from the fact that this place is a pasture center.

The passage from the denomination of Curral or Curral da Serra to Curral das Freiras will have happened according to some authors between 1492 and 1497, to the time of the passage of the property of the lands for the possession of the nuns of the convent of Santa Clara. Other authors maintain that this denomination only appeared later, in 1566 when the looting of the city of Funchal by French corsairs what made the nuns of the convent of Santa Clara take shelter there, in their properties.

The cache is located at the top of Pico do Serrado, where you can enjoy an excellent landscape.
