With this cache I want to show you a place of great interest and utmost historic importance:
Med denna cache vill jag visa en plats av stort intresse och ytterst viktig historisk betydelse:
The rock carvings in Tanum, in the north of the Bohuslän province, Sweden.
Hällristningarna i Tanum, i norra Bohuslän, Sverige
The cache is a black film canister (svart filmburk)
and had the following content from start:
The rock carvings were created during 1800 BC – 500 BC. They discovered the first rock carving in the early 1700s, and that was the flat rock with the Spear God.
- Cache log
- A picture of my Smashing GeoCaching Dogs (the SGCD) (NB, not a trading object! If you want a picture of the SGCD send me an e-mail and I will send you a picture!)
- One "I love baseball" pin
- Three crimp terminals (kabelskor)
The Spear God is a 2 m 35 cm (7 ft 9”) tall carving of a man and his spear. That is the largest rock carving figure of them all and it is perhaps the biggest in the world!
UNESCO has, in the World Heritage List, stated that "the Rock Carvings are a unique artistic achievement not only for their rich and varied motifs (depictions of humans and animals, weapons, boats and a lot of other subjects) but also for their cultural and chronological unity. They reveal the life and beliefs of people in Europe during the Bronze Age and are remarkable for their large numbers and outstanding quality."
This area has been on the World Heritage List since 1994.
Read more about the rock carvings on the Vitlycke Museum's homepage, in Swedish, English or German!
Please, don't put any trading objects in the cache!
