Nethen Multi-cache

Een wandeling of (fiets)tocht rond en door één van de mooiste dorpjes van Brabant : Nethen met ongerepte landschappen, prachtige vergezichten en groene valleien.
Goed voor een halve dag cacheplezier en genieten in de natuur !

Deze cache draag ik op aan mijn overgrootouders Emile H. en Charlotte N. die in Nethen een gelukkige oude dag doorbrachten.

Praktisch

Voor het grootste deel gaat deze tocht langs veld- en boswegen.

Indien men de volledige omloop wandelt, is de lengte ten minste 10 km.
Voorzie je van drank voor onderweg, de drankgelegenheden zijn schaars.
Met de MTB of eventueel met een fiets kan het ook, maar bepaalde delen zijn niet berijdbaar (smalle of/en steile paadjes e.d.), daar kan je enkel de fiets voortduwen of voorttrekken, bovendien en voortgaande op de ervaringen van de eerste cachers is het niet zeker of de fiets veel tijdswinst oplevert.
Met de auto of 4x4 is het onmogelijk de hele tocht te doen.

Openbaar vervoer of eigen vervoer
Bereikbaar met het openbaar vervoer :
Trein : afstappen in het station van Sint-Joris-Weert (op lijn 139 Leuven-Ottignies), vanaf het station wandel in zuidelijke richting, ga onder de spoorwegbrug naar WP0. Extra afstand 1.4 km (x2)
Bus : Lijn 344 (Brussel Schumann - Hamme-Mille) en afstappen Rue de Beaumont, Nethen vlakbij WP0

Met de auto parkeer je in de buurt van WP0 of als er geen plaats is nabij WP1 of WP2.

Tijdens deze tocht moet je de waarde vinden van bepaalde letters. De waarde varieert van 0 tot 99.
Vervolgens dien je deze letters door hun waarde vervangen om de coördinaten van een volgend waypoint of de cache te kennen. Als er X.Y staat dan is . een decimaal punt (dat blijft staan) en geen vermenigvuldiging. Voorbeeld : A=43 B=9 C=1 D=4 dan wordt A.BCD uiteindelijk 43.914

De enige uitzondering hierop is bij de berekening van WP12 maar daar staat het ook duidelijk vermeld.
De wandeling (of fietstocht) begint bij WP0 (en niet WP1) .

Er zijn namelijk twee fotovragen, twee gebouwen of bouwsels die je onderweg moet trachten te herkennen. Print deze foto's dus zeker uit. Eén van deze gebouwen bevindt zich tussen WP0 en WP9, het andere niet.
Als het gebouw zich bevindt tussen WP0 en WP1, dan krijgt de letter de waarde 0, als het gebouw zich bevindt tussen WP1 en WP2 de waarde 1, enz..
Wanneer het gebouw helemaal niet ligt tussen WP0 en WP9 dan is de waarde van de letter 9.

Het huisje levert je de waarde van H en de ingangspoort de waarde van J.

Hopelijk heb je WP11 niet nodig ! Hier bevindt zich een microcache die je kan gebruiken om de waarde van 1, 2 of 3 letters alsnog te vinden. Juich niet te vlug, want hoe meer letters je niet gevonden hebt, des te moeilijker de opdracht. Programmeer alvast je PDA of neem je calculator mee en fris eventjes op hoe je zulk stelsel snel kan oplossen. Om 1 letter terug te vinden moet je 1 vergelijking met 1 onbekende oplossen, voor 2 letters zijn dat 2 vergelijkingen met 2 onbekenden, enz …

Neem mee : Papier en potlood, een zakrekenmachine of PDA (WP11 !), een prikstok, kompas en eventueel een vergrootglas (als je ogen last hebben met kleine details).

Wanneer je me vooraf contacteert, dan bezorg ik je een GSM-nummer in geval van problemen.
Zo kan je in alle gemoedsrust aan deze tocht beginnen met een hulplijn achter de hand mocht het nodig zijn.

Dit waypoint schijnt verdwenen te zijn maar je hebt het normaal gesproken niet nodig. Mogelijk wordt het definitief geschrapt.
Microcache, je bent niet verplicht deze te vinden maar je kan hiermee controleren of je letters de juiste waarde hebben of er enkele die je niet hebt recupereren. Meteen of te snel naar dit punt gaan zal je echter niet helpen !

Het volgende is WEL een vermenigvuldiging en optelling @=2.H - 1

We zijn er bijna ! Zoek hier de laatste microcache die je de weg naar de cache zal wijzen.
Naast de coordinaten van de cache ontvang je ook nog de coordinaten van een extra WP ca. 200m van de cache. Dit extra WP kan je op twee manieren helpen : 1) het ligt aan een wegvertakking en door er naartoe te gaan, zal je wellicht (hopelijk) wegen volgen en niet door het bos moeten struinen. 2) Vanaf dit waypoint kan je de stash ook met een kompas vinden (een afstand en een richting zijn gegeven), voor het geval de GPS-ontvangst in de buurt van de stash wat zou tegenvallen.

CACHE
Bravo voor je doorzettingsvermogen. Zoek een ammobox in de grond bedekt met wat bladeren.
De GPS-ontvangst is hier vaak slecht.
Zoek eerst een boom met een gele voet ongeveer 15 meter van de weg.
De cache ligt zowat 7 meter Noord van deze boom en ligt naast een klein bergje met wat mos.

A walk or biketour around and through one of the most beautiful villages of Brabant, good for a half day caching and enjoying the unspoiled landscapes, nice views and green valleys.

I dedicate this cache to my grand-grandparents Emile H. and Charlotte N. who enjoyed their happy retirement years here.

Practical Information

The tour goes mainly over field and foresttracks.
The complete tour is at least 10 km.
It is impossible to drive the complete tour, even not by 4x4.
Have some drinks with you, the inn's being scarce.
It's possible to ride the tour by mountainbike, perhaps also with a (robust) bike, but anyway you will have to push or pull your bike on some small and steep paths.
According to reports by the first visitors, using a bike saves virtually no time compared to walking.

Public transport or by your own ...
Train : The nearest railway station is in Sint-Joris-Weert which is on line 139 Leuven - Ottignies.
From both endpoints there are many and fast links to Brussels and other cities.

Car : You can park near WP0, near the railwaycrossing at WP1 (only 1 car) or near WP2.

Prepare yourself at home. Read this well first.
While walking or riding this tour, you'll have to find letters which have a value (from 0 to 99).
Replace the letters by their value to find the coordinates of a waypoint.
To be complete and clear : a point in the formula is the decimal point in the coordinates, NOT a multiplication.
One exception though at WP12, but it is clearly stated there.

Also note that the numbering of the waypoints (and the tour) starts at WP0 and not at WP1.
This has something to do with the two pictures (that you must print before) of buildings you'll have to recognise between WP0 and WP9.
If the building occurs between WP0 and WP1, its letter gets the value 0, if the building occurs between WP1 and WP2 its letter gets the value 1 and so on.
One of the buildings indeed will appear between WP0 and WP9, the other not. In the latter case, the value of the letter will be 9.
Finding the house will give you the value of H, the gate gives J.

I sincerely hope you won't need WP11 ! There is a microcache with formulas to retrieve the values of 1, 2 up to 3 letters. To retrieve one letter, there is a checksum. To retrieve 2 or 3 letters, you will have to solve a system of 2 (or 3) equations. So, prepare your PDA or open your old schoolbooks before !

Have with you : paper and pencil, a pocketcalculator or PDA (WP11 !), a compass and a probe to find the stash more easily (not strictly necessary), a magnifying glass (if you have trouble with small details)
One waypoint is at armslength height for a normal person, if you are not tall, be sure to have a friend with you.

Microcache, you don't have to find this micro if you have all the letters and their values. You can recover up to 3 letters here. Going here first or too quick won't help you however.

The following is (exception like said before) a multiplication and addition @=2.H - 1

We are close. Look at WP12 for a microcache with the final coordinates of the stash.
You'll receive also the coordinates of another WP some 200m from the stash. This WP may help you in two ways : 1) it's a branch of ways easy to spot and by using this WP you'll hopefully will stay on paths. 2) GPS reception may be poor near the stash, but stash is at X metres and bearing Y degrees from that WP.

STASH
Congratulations ! Look for an ammobox in the ground covered with some leaves.
GPS reception is often lousy here.
Look first for a tree with a yellow base at some 15 meters from the path.
The cache is aside a small heap with some moss and about 7 meters North of this tree.
