Schwarzenbergplatz Multi-cache

The Schwarzenbergplatz ist one of the tallest places in downtown Vienna. The place is situated between a number of places of interest, like the Ringstrasse, the Karlsplatz and the Belvedere.

Der Schwarzenbergplatz ist einer der größten Plätze in der Wiener Innenstadt. Der Platz liegt zwischen einer Vielzahl bekannter Sehenswürdigkeiten wie der Ringstrasse, dem Karlsplatz und dem Belvedere.

The cache should be easy to find, whereas you have two variants on your way to the hiding place. Should you consider to choose varaint 2, you possibly need a compass and a range finder, depending on the potentials of your GPS-receiver.

Dieser Cache sollte leicht zu finden sein, wobei es auf dem Weg zum Versteck 2 Varianten gibt. Solltest Du Dich für die Variante 2 entscheiden, benötigst Du eventuell noch einen Kompass und einen Entfernungsmesser, abhänging von den Möglichkeiten die Dein GPS-Empfänger bietet.

Stage 1: Carl zu Schwarzenberg

At this coordinate you will find the statue of Carl zu Schwarzenberg, who gaves this place the name. At the socket of the statue you will find a text with 3 year dates. The first two of them, A and B, refer to years of war. The third, C, refers to the errection of this monument.

Now you have two possibilities to find the cache. You can visit the other stages, this is variant 1, and come closer to the hiding place, or you can go directly to the hiding place, that is variant 2.

Bei diesen Koordinaten findest Du die Statue des Feldmarschalls Carl zu Schwarzenberg, der diesem Platz den Namen gab. Am Sockel der Statue befindet sich ein Text mit 3 Jahreszahlen. Die ersten beiden, A und B, beziehen sich auf Kriegsjahre. Die dritte, C, bezieht sich auf die Errichtung dieser Statue.

Du hast nun zwei Möglichkeiten den Cache zu finden. Du kannst entweder die anderen Stages besuchen, dies ist Variante 1, und Dich so dem Versteck nähern, oder Du kannst gleich zu Versteck gelangen, dies ist Variante 2.

Variant 1 (the easy way) / Variante 1 (der einfache Weg)

Stage 2: The fountain / Der Brunnen
N2 = N1 - (C - B) * 3 +13
E2 = E1 + (A + C) / 46

At your new position you should see a fountain and to plates with inscriptions. One plate should be on the right side and another plate should be on the left side of the inscription with the name of the fountain. The left plate tells you the year and the reason why this fountain was build. Again, you should notice the year date, call it J1. The right plate tells you the year date this fountain was adapted to his appearance, which is valid until now. Again, you should notice the year date, call it J2.
D = checksum (J1)
E = checksum (J2)

Von Deinem neuen Standpunkt aus solltest Du Blick auf einen Brunnen und 2 Tafeln mit Inschriften haben. Eine Tafel befindet sich links und eine Tafel rechts von der Inschrift mit dem Namen des Brunnens. Die linke Tafel gibt Auskunft darüber, wann und zu welchem Anlass der Brunnen errichtet wurde. Auch hier gilt es wieder, sich eine Jahreszahl, nenne sie J1, zu merken. Die rechte Tafel teilt Dir mit wann der Brunnen sein noch heute gültiges Aussehen bekommen hat. Auch diese Jahrezahl, nenne sie J2, solltest Du Dir merken.
D = Quersumme (J1)
E = Quersumme (J2)

Stage 3: The memorial / Die Gedenkstätte
N3 = N2 - D - 7
E3 = E2 + E - 1

At this Position you will find a memorial. The reason why this monument was erected is similar as that at stage 1, but here the commemoration is not for a "successful" officer. In front of the memorial you will find a plate with an inscription. Did you expected something different ?
Instead of noticing year dates you have to count letters. Do the following calculations:
F = number of the letter D in the left half of the inscription
G = number of the letter H in the left half of the inscription
I = number of the letter S in the left half of the inscription

An diesem Platz befindet sich eine Gedenkstätte. Der Grund warum diese Gedenkstätte errichtet wurde, ist ein ähnlicher wie bei Stage 1, nur wird hier keinem "erfolgreichen" Offizier gedacht. Vor dem Denkmal befindet sich eine Tafel mit einer Inschrift. Hast Du etwas anderes erwartet ?
Hier geht es diesmal nicht um Jahreszahlen, sondern um Buchstaben. Führe folgende Berechnungen durch:
F = Anzahl des Buchstaben D in der linken Hälfte der Inschrift
G = Anzahl des Buchstaben H in der linken Hälfte der Inschrift
I = Anzahl des Buchstaben S in der linken Hälfte der Inschrift

Stage 4: The cache / Der Cache
N4 = N3 - F - E
E4 = E3 - G - (3 * I)

Variant 2 (the direct way) / Variante 2 (der direkte Weg)

If you want to go to the cache using this variant, you have to do the following calculations:
A1 = (checksum (B) * checksum (C)) + (5 * checksum (A)) + 5
B1 = (C - B) * 3 + 12
From your actual position the cache is hidden A1 meters away, with a true bearing of B1 degree.
There is no "direttissima" between these two positions, except you want to test your courage. If you locate the position and bear it in mind, it should be no problem to go to it with small detours.

Um mit dieser Variante zum Cache zu kommen, mußt Du folgende Rechnung durchführen:
A1 = (Quersumme (B) * (Quersumme (C)) + (5 * Quersumme (A)) + 5
B1 = (C - B) * 3 + 12
Von Deinem jetzigen Standpunkt aus befindet sich der Cache in A1 Metern Enfternung, bei einer Peilung auf B1 Grad.
Es gibt keine "Direttissima" zwischen diesen beiden Punkten, ausser Du willst Deinen Mut testen. Wenn Du den neuen Standpunkt aber anpeilst und Dir merkst, sollte es keine Problem sein auf kleinen Umwegen dorthin zu gelangen.

Description of the surrounding of the hiding place / Beschreibung der Umgebung des Versteckes

Although the hiding place is a little bit aside, you have to be careful. It is quite a crowded place in the center of the city. Many of the plants fallen victim to a reconstruction of this place, therefore the vegetation isn't very dense, hence the hiding place can be seen from more than one side. Please be careful retrieving and placing back the cache.

The cachebox is a film canister with a logbook. Please bring your own pencil.

Obwohl das Versteck etwas abseits liegt, empfiehlt es sich vorsichtig zu sein. Es handelt sich doch um einen sehr belebten Platz im Stadtzentrum. Dem Umbau des Platzes sind viele Pflanzen zum Opfer gefallen, so das die Vegetation im Moment noch nicht sehr dicht ist, daher kann auch der Platz des Versteckes von mehreren Seiten, eingesehen werden. Daher bitte Vorsicht beim bergen und zurückstellen des Caches.
